In safety, I will lie die in sleep. Lord Jesus, this is a promise You give to all Your children. Why is sleep so difficult to achieve? Why are we striving for it? Why do we rebel against it? Why do we wrestle in the night watches? Lord, You have given us great authority in You to cast out every demon of sleeplessness and strife- we bind and cast them out now in Your Name. Father, grant us the ability to receive Your peace despite our resistance and unbelief. Grant us Your favor to lie down, trusting in You- trusting in Your rod and Your staff and not relying upon our own rod and staff to deliver us. We thank You, Lord, for Your forgiveness over every troubling thought and desire we have held onto. We let it go now, in Jesus’s Name, and receive His peace which surpasses all understanding. Thank You, Jesus, for Your peace, which is not like the world’s peace. Your peace is powerful enough to stop the storms around us; it is powerful enough to cast away every fear and doubt and worry concerning Your care and love for us; it is powerful enough to provide in every circumstance, typical and non-typical. Thank You, Lord, that we don’t have to strive for peace anymore! I break off every curse that steals our peace in You. I ask Your Holy Spirit to fill up every vacant place within ourselves and our sphere of influence so that the enemy may not return to do his evil work again. Seal up those gaps in the walls, Spirit. We declare that we will not be afraid of ten thousand who set themselves against us, nor will we be afraid of the terror that comes by day nor the arrows that fly by night! Thank You, Jesus, for this great authority in You! We love You! We praise You! Our mouths are now released to praise and thank the Lord, continually. In Your Name, Amen!
Scripture references:
Psalm 4:8– In safety, believers lie down in sleep.
Matthew 10:1; 16:19; 18:18; Mark 3:15; Luke 9:1– Believers have the authority to bind and cast out demons.
Mark 9:15-25– We can ask Jesus to help our unbelief and He will have compassion and mercy upon us.
Psalm 84:11; Genesis 6:8; 39:21; Daniel 1:9; Luke 1:30; 1 Samuel 2:26; Judges 6:12-22– God grants favor. Noah, Joseph, Daniel, Mary (Jesus’s mother), Samuel, and Gideon are some examples of those who had received God’s favor.
Proverbs 3:5– all should trust in the Lord with all their heart and lean not on their own understanding.
Psalm 23– Jesus’s rod and staff comforts and guides us.
John 9:3-4; Colossians 3:13; Matthew 6:14-15– the Lord is quick to forgive and cleanse us of all unrighteousness; believers must also forgive, because forgiveness is the work of Jesus Christ, who sends us; we are to forgive quickly because the day will become night soon and no one will be able to work in the night, Amen. We also forgive because any unforgiveness gives the devil a foothold where he can torment us (see Ephesians 4:26-27 and Matthew 18:23-35).
Philippians 4:6-7; John 14:23-27; James 1:17– Jesus’s peace surpasses all understanding. He gives us His peace freely and purely, and it is not of this world; therefore, it cannot be bought by the flesh or by the things of this world (i.e., will power, physical strength, intelligence, worldly resources like money, power, fame, etc.).
Mark 4:35-41– Jesus’s peace casts away doubt and ungodly fear and calms storms.
Matthew 10:8; Galatians 5:22-23– Jesus freely gives His peace to us, so we need not strive for it. Peace is also fruit of the Spirit and fruit is not only intended to feed the recipient, but also to be shared with others, as Jesus has commanded us to give freely what He has given us.
John 10:10– the devil places curses upon us to try to steal, kill, and destroy the fruit of the Spirit. Although Jesus has become a curse for all people, those who have received Jesus can still be cursed if there is a cause. For example, when a believer sins, it opens a foothold for the enemy and a curse can alight upon him or her (see Galatians 3:13; Ephesians 4:27; Proverbs 26:2). The wonderful news is that if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous (1 John 2:1-2).
Matthew 12:43-45; Luke 11:24-26; Matthew 21:10-13; Mark 11:17; Luke 19:46; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20– The Holy Spirit should always be invited to fill vacancies when the enemy leaves a place. As believers, we are to be a house of prayer because we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Temples can be filled with thieves, which they need to be expelled and the temple rededicated to the Lord, Amen. Each believer is also given a sphere of influence that God has given to him/her in which victory is to be established and maintained for the Lord (see 2 Corinthians 10:13-16, Joshua 1:3, Deuteronomy 11:24).
Ezekiel 22:30; Nehemiah 2:11-20– Gaps in walls need to be filled and not left for the enemy to return and attack again. Nehemiah’s good work consisted of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem so that the Jewish people would no longer be a reproach (see the definition of reproach, H2781).
Psalm 3:6– Believers are not be afraid of ten thousand who have set themselves against us.
Psalm 91:1-8– Believers are not to be afraid of the terror that comes by night nor the arrow that flies by day because Jesus is our refuge and fortress.
Matthew 28:18-20; John 14:12; 15:1-6– Believers have great authority in Jesus to go do greater works than He did, Amen. Believers are the branches in the Vine [Jesus Christ] and will bear fruit in keeping with the Vine, Amen.
Psalm 91:14– All those who set their love upon God and they will be delivered.
Psalm 34:1; Hebrews 13:15; 1 Thessalonians 5:18; Psalm 32:7; 100:4– Believers are to praise the Lord continually because praise is a weapon against the enemy (praise also includes singing). Praise is an access point in which believers can enter into the kingdom of God and His court.
